HD Images

Getting these was a bit tricky as the default display that vlc uses is DirectX based and you can’t use print screen to grab an image from it. When I switch vlc to draw using GDI some of the vertical resolution got lost.  This most visible in the standard TV image which is a bit squashed.

Standard TV (720x480)

720p HD (1280x720)

1080i HD 4:3 image (1920x1080 cut to 1440x1080)

1080i HD 16:9 image (1920x1080)

It really is surprising how big a full HD image is. When you are looking at TV's most HD ready TV's can't display a full HD image most DLP and LCD displays for example only do a 720p image so a 1080i image is reduced to fit.
