Xbox 360 First Impressions

A little late but yesterday was the first time I have actually seen a 360 on sale since they launched last November.  It is pretty cool I probably spent an hour playing around with just the interface downloading some trailers getting the UI set to 1080i and the sound set to digital playing a little Hexic. I liked that I was able to sign into my Live account with my normal passport account.

I picked up 3 games at the same time PGR3, DOA4, and AMPED 3.  All three look great, DOA4 was pretty disappointing I picked it up primarily for playing with other people as a group game but the first person to get a hit in pretty much wins a match, which is no fun for unskilled button mashers.

PGR3 doesn't seem to have a split screen mode it says two local players on the box. Single player mode is fun so far, though so far it seems easier with less build up then PGR2.

AMPED3 is fun I haven't played the first two as I played the SSX games gameplay is somewhat similar, snowboarding and all.  The actual game has more depth you go around the mountain, an other mountains later, completing challenges.  The challenges run from simple things like jumping off a cliff in a bunny suit to doing long slaloms.

The Windows Media Connect works if you are logged in as an administrative user and don't switch accounts.  I thought it was working great but logged in as my normal user it didn't work anymore.  The Visualization are pretty cool looking but distracting.  There is no computer setting for playing video,  I guess you need Media Center for the DRM to work.

DVD playback seems to be ok the simple test of one DVD, a banged up zip.ca disk played without any breakups.  Though the film wasn't worth watching a second time to see if it played differently on my normal Sony player.
